Alexander McQueen Opens Online StoreBritish Fashion Designer Launches Shopping Site for U.S. ResidentsUS residents get the chance to shop Alexander McQueen's new fall collection online, with the launch of his new E-commerce site.
British designer, Alexander McQueen’s menswear and womenswear is now available at the click of a mouse. McQueen joins the ranks of other fashion houses like Balenciaga, who have recently debuted their own online shopping site. McQueen’s online store, Alexander McQueen.com, is currently available to US residents only, but whilst the rest of the world waits patiently, lucky Manhattanites can benefit from same day delivery (for an extra cost of $50.00). Alexander McQueen US WebsiteThe US site features McQueen's Fall Winter 2008 collection, including bags, shoes and accessories. A 17-minute catwalk video of show-stopping outfits and a slideshow with garment information, allows you to view these outfits in their full splendor in the comfort of your own home. It’s also possible to sign up for exclusive emails, regular product updates and special invitations. Not all the fall collection is available online. However, the site includes McQueen's much touted black peacoat with fur collar, paired with this season's look in shiny sequined leggings, in sparkling navy blue. This popular jacket is inspired by the traditional peacoats worn by European sailors, with its broad lapels and double breasted-front. In the accessories department, the Elvie Pebble tote, with its stylish vintage look and front gold fastening is set to be a winner this season. Alexander McQueen – British Designer ExtraordinaireEarly on in his career Alexander McQueen established a reputation for being rebellious in his designs. In less than 10 years he has distinguished himself as one of the world’s foremost fashion designers by pushing the envelope with his ground-breaking collections. He is well-known for his origami cuts, kimono-styled oriental draping, ultra-cinched waists and eye-catching prints. McQueen's designs are a delicate balance of British tailoring, the fine French haute Couture workmanship and the impeccable finish of Italian manufacturing. In his short 10-year career has (so far) been awarded a CBE (Commander of the British Empire) by HM the Queen, received 4 British Designer of the Year awards (1996,1997, 2001and 2003) and was also awarded British Designer of the Year in 2003 by the Council of Fashion Designer’s of America (CFDA). His collections are now distributed to around 40 countries, with flagship stores in London, New York, Milan, Los Angeles and Las Vegas. There’s a store locator on the website which contains images of each of these outlets. Alexander McQueen Fall Winter 2008Part of his fall ready-to-wear collection is influenced by the current military trend, with a cashmere military style coat and a cut-away frock coat with military frogging. He also gives a nod to this season’s passion for plaid and fur, with a fluffy Mongolian trim jacket and plaid print windowpane full skirt. Although these are not currently available from McQueen's shopping site, they can be found online at Net-A-Porter or Saks. One of McQueen’s most recognizable accessories, the Hollywood skull-print scarf is featured on his shopping site, along with the colorful Skull Box Jungle Clutch. When it comes to footwear, a must-have for this fall is Alexander McQueen’s black suede and patent trim ankle boot, distinctive in their sleek styling and slender 4.5” heel.
